Declined, or found something you do not recognise.

Credit repair consultation

Before anyone sells you anything, a straight answer.

You were declined, or you found something on your report you do not recognise. Thirty minutes on the phone, no card, and an honest account of what can and cannot be done about it.

Your reports are free at annualcreditreport.com. Get them before you call anybody, including us.

A first call, thirty minutesfree, and it stays free
  1. You

I got declined for a car loan last week. They said it was my credit. I pulled the report and there is an account on there I have never heard of.

  2. Us

Then the first thing to say is that this call is free and stays free, and I am not going to ask you for a card at any point today.

    no fee before performance
  3. Us

Read me the account name and the date it says it opened. If it is not yours, that is an accuracy problem and the law has a specific route for it.

  4. You

It says opened March 2023. I was not in the state in March 2023.

  5. Us

Good. That is a fact you can point at, and a fact is what a dispute needs. Before anything else, you can do this yourself for nothing, and I will tell you exactly how if you want to.

  6. You

What would you do that I would not?

  7. Us

Write it properly, send it so there is proof it arrived, count the days, and chase it on the day it is late rather than the day somebody remembers. That is most of it. It is not magic and I am not going to pretend it is.

    30 days, or 45
  8. You

And if it is actually mine and I just paid it late?

  9. Us

Then it stays. Accurate, complete and verifiable information does not come off because somebody asked nicely, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something. It ages off on its own schedule.

    what cannot be disputed
  10. You

So what do you actually charge?

  11. Us

Per item, after that item has an outcome in writing. Nothing up front, nothing monthly, and if you change your mind in the first three business days you cancel and owe nothing at all.

Your turn. The review is free and nothing is payable today.

One mark for each day. The agency has 30 days from receiving the dispute, extending to 45 if you send more information during the period. Nothing anybody does makes it shorter.

A composed example, not a recording. No real person is quoted anywhere on this site and no call is transcribed without consent.

The honest part

The list most companies put last

Every credit repair site has a page of what it can do. This is the other one. If any of these is what you were hoping for, you will save yourself money by reading it now rather than after you have signed something.

Before you ask

Six things we will say no to

No

“Can you take a deposit today and start straight away?”

CROA 1679b(b)

No credit repair organisation may charge or receive any money for a service before that service is fully performed. A deposit is money before performance.

The review is free and there is nothing to pay to begin. You are invoiced per item, after that item has an outcome in writing.

Nobody can

“Can you get the late payments off? They are mine but it was a bad year.”

FCRA 611

The dispute process addresses information that is inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable. Accurate, complete and verifiable information stays until it ages off.

Most negative information comes off after seven years on its own. We will tell you the date. If the dates or amounts are wrong, that is a different conversation and we can have it.

Nobody can

“How many points will this put on my score?”

CROA 1679b(a)(3)

Scores are calculated by models we do not control, from data we do not own, and a promise about one is a misrepresentation. It is also the single most common thing this industry is sued for.

We will tell you what we think can be disputed and on what basis. What that does to a number is not ours to promise and we will not guess at it.

No

“Somebody offered me a CPN so I can start fresh. Is that worth doing?”

CROA 1679b(a)(1) and (2)

Advising you to use a new identifying number in place of your Social Security number, or to make an untrue statement to an agency, is illegal. It is usually a stolen number, often a child’s.

Nothing. Walk away from whoever offered it. If you have already used one, speak to a lawyer today rather than to us.

We cannot

“Can you guarantee it will be done before my closing date?”

FCRA 611(a)(1)

The clock belongs to the agency: 30 days from receipt, extending to 45. We can make sure it starts on a provable date and that late is visible. We cannot make it shorter.

Tell us the date on the free review. If there is not enough runway we will say so and you can decide whether to start at all.

No

“Can I just pay you monthly so it keeps going?”

CROA 1679b(b)

A monthly fee charged before the month’s work is performed is an advance fee. It is also how people end up paying for a year of letters nobody read.

Per item, after an outcome. If there is nothing left worth disputing we will tell you and stop billing you, which is the point of charging this way.

Ten rights you already have, and nobody mentions

These are not our terms. They are federal law, they apply to every company in this industry including us, and they are worth knowing before you speak to any of us. Here are five of them.

  1. R-01

Nobody may take your money first

No credit repair organisation may charge or receive any payment for a service until that service has been fully performed. Not a deposit, not a setup fee, not a first month.

Red flagAnyone asking for money before they have done anything is breaking federal law in front of you.

    your rightCROA 15 U.S.C. 1679b(b)
  2. R-02

You get your rights in writing, first

Before any contract, you must receive a separate written statement called Consumer Credit File Rights Under State and Federal Law. Separate means its own document, not a paragraph inside something else.

Red flagA contract arriving without it, or the disclosure buried as a clause on page four.

    your rightCROA 15 U.S.C. 1679c
  3. R-03

Three business days to walk away

You may cancel without penalty or obligation until midnight of the third business day after you sign. You do not have to give a reason and you owe nothing.

Red flagPressure to sign today, or a cancellation form that is missing, or supplied only once.

    your rightCROA 15 U.S.C. 1679e
  4. R-04

The contract has to say what you are buying

The written contract must state the terms of payment, a full description of the services, the estimated date by which they will be performed, our name and business address, and your right to cancel.

Red flagA contract with no estimated performance date. It is the term most often left out.

    your rightCROA 15 U.S.C. 1679d
  5. R-05

Nobody may tell you to lie

It is illegal to advise you to make an untrue statement to a credit agency, or to alter your identity to break the link to your file.

Red flagThe words "credit privacy number", "new file", or "we can make it disappear".

Start to finish

What happens, and how long the quiet part lasts

Written from where you will be standing, including the month in the middle where nothing happens. The deadlines in the chips are statutory: they belong to the agency, not to us, and nobody can shorten them.

The free review

Same day

Thirty minutes on the phone. You read us what is on the report, we tell you which parts have a route and which do not.

What you hearA straight answer on the call, and a written summary the same day whether or not you go ahead.

Before anything is signed

Before contractCROA 1679c

You get the statutory statement of your rights as a separate document, and a written contract you can read without a countdown running.

What you hearTwo documents by email, and a phone number that reaches a person.

Three days to change your mind

3 business daysCROA 1679e

Nothing is sent and nothing is charged. If you cancel in this window you owe nothing, and you do not have to give a reason.

What you hearA cancellation form, in duplicate, with the contract. Keep one.

The letters get written

About a week

One letter per item, each stating the specific thing that is wrong and the evidence for it. A letter that disputes everything at once is a letter that gets treated as frivolous.

What you hearA copy of every letter before it goes, for you to approve.

They go in the post

When posted

Sent so that the date of arrival is provable. That date is the one the clock runs from, and without it there is nothing to hold anybody to.

What you hearThe article number for each letter, so you can track it yourself.

The quiet part

30 days, or 45FCRA 611(a)(1)(A)

This is most of it. The agency has 30 days from receiving your dispute, extending to 45 if you send more information during the period. Nothing you do makes it faster.

What you hearA note on the day it is sent, and a note on the day it is due. Nothing in between, because there is nothing in between.

Behind the scenes

5 business daysFCRA 611(a)(2)

The agency has to tell the company that reported the item that you disputed it. That is their obligation, not yours, and it has its own short clock.

What you hearNothing. It is included here because you should know it is happening.

The written result

By day 30 or 45FCRA 611(a)(6)

Deleted, changed, or verified as correct. Verified is a real outcome and it happens; the report will say so plainly rather than dressing it up.

What you hearA call the day it lands, and the letter forwarded to you in full.

If it comes back verified

15 daysFCRA 611(a)(7)

You can ask how they checked. They have to describe the procedure they used and name the company they contacted.

What you hearA call about whether it is worth asking, which sometimes it is not.

If you still disagree

No deadlineFCRA 611(b)

You can add your own statement of the dispute to the file, in your own words. The agency may hold you to one hundred words.

What you hearHelp writing the hundred words, at no charge.

Done

On outcome

You get the whole file: every letter sent, every reply, every date. It is yours, and it is the thing you hand to the next person who asks.

What you hearOne email with everything in it, and an invoice for the items that reached an outcome.

A dispute is three pieces of paper

Your letter, their reply, and what changed. They arrive weeks apart and none of them replaces the one before it, which is why the file at the end is the thing worth having. Separate the stack to read all three.

  • You see every letter before it goes, and you can change it.
  • It is sent so the arrival date can be proved. That date starts the clock.
  • Every reply is forwarded to you whole, including the ones we do not like.

What we keep, and what you get

One item · three pieces of paper, most recent on top

Your letterSent, tracked

One item, the specific thing that is wrong about it, and the evidence. Sent so the date it arrived can be proved, because that date starts the clock.

  • 4 pages
  • copy sent to you first
  • proof of delivery kept
Their replyDay 26 of 30

The written result of the reinvestigation. It arrived inside the window, which is what should happen and often does.

  • 2 pages
  • forwarded to you in full
  • inside the window
What changedOne item

The date of last activity was corrected. The account itself is still reported, because it is real. The file says what happened, not what we hoped for.

  • 1 item changed
  • account still reported
  • closed at 26 days

You get all three at the end, whatever the answer was.

Most days, nothing happens

This is a real week on an ordinary file, including the days where the answer is that there is nothing to report. Point at a day, or tab to it, and it locks under the rule with the detail beside it.

The whole thing, week by week

Nothing held back

You can do all of this yourself, for nothing

Here is the whole method, in order. If you are willing to write specific letters, send them so the arrival is provable, count the days and chase on the day it is late, you do not need us and we would rather say so here than take your money to find out.

  1. 01

    Get all three reports

Go to annualcreditreport.com. It is the site the law set up and it is free. Get all three, because an item is often on one and not the others, and you dispute with the agency that is reporting it.

    Free
  2. 02

    Read them with a pen

Go line by line. You are looking for accounts you do not recognise, balances that are wrong, dates that are wrong, and the same debt appearing twice under two names.

    Free
  3. 03

    Write one letter per item

Say which item, say the specific thing that is wrong, and say what the truth is. Attach what proves it. Do not send a template that disputes everything, because a dispute that looks automated can be dismissed as frivolous.

    Free
  4. 04

Send it so the arrival is provable

Post it with tracking and keep the receipt. The 30 days runs from when they receive it, so the date of arrival is the only date that matters and you want to hold it yourself.

    A few dollars in postage
  5. 05

Write the due date on a calendar

Thirty days from the day it arrived. Forty five if you send more information during the period. Put it somewhere you will see it, because nobody else is going to remind you.

    Free
  6. 06

    On the due date, act

If nothing came, chase it. If it came back verified, you can ask how they checked and they have 15 days to tell you. If you still disagree, you can add a hundred word statement to the file.

Each step in full, with what to watch for

What people say in the first two minutes

No reviews, no star rating, no logo wall and no customer count, because this is a demonstration site and there is nobody to count. These are the four things people say in the first two minutes, and what we say back.

  1. “I think I have already been scammed once.”

The most common thing we hear

Then you already know the shape of it: money up front, a promise about points, and a monthly charge that outlived the work. All three are either illegal or unprovable. You can report it to your state attorney general and to the CFPB, both free, and we will help you write it whether or not you become a client.

  2. “I am embarrassed about how bad it is.”

Said quietly, usually near the end

Nobody here is keeping score. A report is a record of a period in your life, usually a hard one, and the people who read them all day are the least surprised people you will ever talk to. Bring the whole thing, including the parts you would rather skip, because the parts you would rather skip are often where the errors are.

  3. “I do not have money to spend on this.”

Often the real reason for the call

Then the review is still free and the answer may well be to do it yourself. Your reports cost nothing at annualcreditreport.com and disputing costs postage. Our whole method is written out on this site with nothing held back, and if that is the right answer for you we will say so plainly.

  4. “How do I know you are not the same as the last lot?”

Asked less often than it should be

Take nothing on trust. We cannot take a penny before the work is done, and that is federal law rather than our policy. You get your rights as a separate written document before you sign anything, and three business days to cancel for no reason. If any of that does not happen, that is your answer.

Bring the whole report, including the awkward parts

Thirty minutes. No card, no contract on the call, and a written summary the same day whether or not you go any further. If the answer is that you should do it yourself, that is what you will be told.
