What it costs

Nothing is payable before the work is done

That is not a policy we are being generous with. It is federal law, it binds every credit repair company in the country, and a company that asks you for money up front is telling you something important about itself.

CROA 15 U.S.C. 1679b(b). No credit repair organisation may charge or receive any money for a service before that service is fully performed.

The free review

Everyone starts here, including people we end up telling not to hire us.

Free

always

  • Thirty minutes on the phone with somebody who reads reports for a living
  • A line by line read of what you send us
  • A written summary the same day, whether or not you go ahead
  • A straight answer about which items have a route and which do not
  • If the answer is do it yourself, we say that, and we show you how

Per item, after the outcome

The ordinary way people work with us.

$65

per item, invoiced after it has an outcome in writing

  • The letter written, and sent to you to approve before it goes
  • Posted so the date of arrival is provable, with the tracking passed to you
  • The clock counted, and the due date given to you in writing on the day it starts
  • Chased on the day it is late, not the day somebody notices
  • Every reply forwarded to you in full, including the ones we do not like

What is never billed

Charging for these would give us a reason to do the wrong thing.

$0

no exceptions

  • Anything before it is done. That is not a policy, it is federal law
  • An item that comes back verified. You pay for outcomes, not for envelopes
  • Helping you write a hundred word statement of dispute
  • Telling you an item is about to age off and you should keep your money
  • Cancelling in the first three business days, which costs nothing and needs no reason

A worked example, with the awkward line left in

Four items disputed. Two came off, one was corrected, one came back verified. You are invoiced for three, because the fourth did not reach an outcome and charging you for it would mean charging you for an envelope.

An invented example, on invented items
ItemWhat we said was wrongResultCharged
An account you did not recogniseNot yoursDeleted$65
A balance that did not matchAmount wrongCorrected$65
A date of last activity two years outDate wrongCorrected$65
A late payment from a bad yearDisputed as unverifiableVerified as correct$0
Total, payable after the last result arrived$195

If the fourth item had been the only one, the whole engagement would have cost you nothing and we would have told you on the review that it was likely to.

Things this industry charges for that we do not

None of these is a favour. Two of them are illegal, and the rest are ways of being paid for activity rather than for outcomes.

  • A setup fee

Money before performance. Prohibited outright by CROA 1679b(b), with no exception for calling it something else.

  • A monthly subscription

Charged before the month's work is done, which is the same problem. It is also how people pay for a year of letters nobody read.

  • Pulling your report

It is free at annualcreditreport.com and always was. Nobody should be charging you for it.

  • An item that came back verified

You would be paying for an envelope. The point of charging per outcome is that we stop when there are no outcomes left.

  • Writing your statement of dispute

A hundred words is twenty minutes and it is your right under FCRA 611(b). We help and do not bill for it.

  • Telling you to stop

If an item is about to age off, or the whole thing is not worth doing, that advice is free and it is the most valuable thing on this page.
